Ms. Callahan's science classes were busy this last week!
Human Anatomy used microscopes to look at different types of tissues of the human body. They then reviewed their anatomical directions by playing a version of Battleship called "find my wound." They could only use anatomical terms to talk to their partners.
Forensics students learned about triangulating crime scenes and evidence and then later studied different types of search patterns by playing "Where's Waldo."

Lady Bluebird Volleyball: Cole Camp Junior High and Varsity teams traveled October 3rd to take on the Lady Vikings.
After a 5-5 start, the Jr High Lady Vikings went on a 13-2 march. That pretty well decided the 1st set as LaMonte won 25-16.
Nice reverse of fortunes in the 2nd set as Cole Camp built a 15-5 lead. They held that margin for a 25-14 win.
Third set was back in LaMonte's favor. A 7-1 lead early was enough to hold off a six-point string by Cole Camp with Jolee Espey serving. LaMonte won the 3rd set 15-11.
Because both schools have numerous girls on roster, a 4th set was played for additional court time. Cole Camp moved ahead 15-2 and finished it leading 25 -13.
No JV games so the varsity squads were next. LaMonte had a 7-10-1 record, more than double their wins over last year. However they were without one of their leaders due to an ankle injury.
Cole Camp took control early and didn't let up in the 1st set. With Marilyn Hesse serving 9, Cole Camp led 17-3. Olivia Pilant can play defense as well as setter, she had a very nice day early. Leah Allison is getting a better angle on her kill attempts and recorded several scores. Lady Bluebirds with a 25-8 win.
More of the same in the 2nd set. Andrea Dieckman served eight in a 12-2 start. Mandy Goosen several nice finishes off Madilynn Ogle assists. Cole Camp 25-9 in the second set.
In case some are not aware, Andrea Dieckman is a tall girl. Not sure exact height, but LaMonte likely felt she was about 7 ft tall. Dieckman had multiple blocks in each set! Regardless the score was tied at 16 midway through the 3rd set. Cole Camp then led 23-17, but a few Bluebird mistakes assisted the Vikings to pull within 24-23. At last, a Viking shot into the net sealed a 25-23 win for Cole Camp.
Kills-Dieckman 11, Goosen 10, Hesse 10, Allison 7
Digs-Hesse 9, Pilant 8, Goosen 7, Ogle 6
Assists-Pilant 19, Ogle 13
Blocks-Dieckman 14

Cole Camp Bluebird Volleyball: Sedalia Sacred Heart came to Cole Camp October 1st for JV and Varsity volleyball.
Nearly even numbers put on the scoreboard in the JV game. Kristin Carl with scores as Cole Camp led 12-11 midway. Maddie Florez served 5 down the stretch to help secure a 25-19 first set win.
Sacred Heart led 7-5 early second set, but that was their last lead for the game. Kaitlyn Whitworth a couple kills off Taylor Loganbill sets. Addy Russell served 5 midway and Carl closed out the set with a pair of aces in her 6 serves. Cole Camp 25-13.
A quick 5-0 start for the Varsity Lady Bluebirds while Olivia Pilant was serving. Andrea Dieckman with several kills as the lead grew to 13-7. Ashlyn Russell served 5 later as Cole Camp won 25-10.
And 11-2 opening for Cole Camp in the 2nd set. Mandy Goosen with opportunistic play at the net for scores. What does that mean? If a return from the opponent is floating barely over or near the net, smack it! Goosen, along with Marilyn Hesse and Leah Allison did just that and the Lady Birds won the 2nd set 25-10.
Dieckman and Hesse with blocks of the young Gremlin hitters in the third set. Cole Camp was leading 15-6, but it wasn't over. Sacred Heart put together a 9-1 come back despite great defensive hustle by Hesse. She had made a save in front of the Cole Camp pep club. Following was a Gremlin shot to the back corner on the other side of the court. Hesse sprinted over there and made contact with the ball, but couldn't quite keep it in play. Still a very nice effort!
A 17- 17 tie became a 25-17 victory as Dieckman served the final seven.
Kills-Dieckman 10, Goosen 9, Hesse 4, Allison 4
Digs-Hesse 8, Allison 6, Harrison 4

Cole Camp Lady Bluebird Volleyball: Cole Camp traveled to Tipton on a beautiful warm and dry September 30th.
The Cole Camp JV team once again put together a very solid performance. They led the first set 14-8 midway and finished it 25-13.
Cole Camp led the second set 10-3 early. The Cardinals narrowed the gap but couldn't overcome the deficit. Cole Camp won the set 25-19 for the match victory.
The Tipton varsity team had a 9-4-3 record and are part of the recently established Central State 8 Conference. However only five of the eight schools have a volleyball program.
After trailing early, Cole Camp recovered to lead 11-6 and finished the first set ahead 25-21. Very nice teamwork on display by the Lady Bluebirds.
Second Varsity set was even better for Cole Camp! Pick any team member and it seemed they were always in the right spot. Defense and offense both were clicking together. Cole Camp 25-8 in the set. Comparable to the first major climb on a roller coaster, excitement and anticipation!
Most of the 3rd set still went well. Cole Camp led 18-15, but Tipton made up some ground to lead 22-20. After a Cole Camp time out, the Lady Bluebirds scored the next four to lead 24-22. Oh so close! However the Lady Cardinals scored the last four to win 26-24.
No doubt Tipton had momentum in the 4th set. They had a 13-3 run midway, yet Cole Camp answered with an 11-4 effort to tie at 22. But Tipton won 25-23.
The roller coaster was on the downhill portion of the track for Cole Camp in the 5th set. Tipton led 7-0 and 2 timeouts by Cole Camp were not able to reverse the train. Tipton won the final set and 15-7.
Kills-Allison, Goosen, Hesse 13 each, Dieckman 9
Digs-Allison 27, Ogle 20, Hesse 19, Goosen 18, Pilant 12
Assists-Pilant 23, Ogle 22
Blocks-Dieckman 15, Hesse 5, Goosen 5

Cole Camp Lady Bluebird Volleyball: The Lady Bluebirds played volleyball Saturday September 28th in Sedalia. In addition to the host school, Santa Fe, Marshall, Sweet Springs, Versailles, Osage and Lafayette County were involved.
First game for Cole Camp was facing the much larger school Smith -Cotton. A 6-point surge midway was the deciding moment in the 1st set. Smith - Cotton was able to hold that margin for a 25-21 win.
Nice work by Cole Camp in the 2nd set building an 18-14 lead. A very effective timeout call by the Lady Tigers Coach as they followed with an 8-1 run. Enough to turn the game into another 25-21 win for S-C.
Next game placed Cole Camp vs Santa Fe (8-3). The Lady Chiefs were tied or ahead in both sets start to finish. Only one string of 3 points for Cole Camp. Santa Fe won 25-14, 25 -15.
Third game of pool play saw the Lady Bluebirds facing the Lady Owls of Marshall. A great string of 8 in a row early by Cole Camp provided a much-needed emotional boost! Cole Camp won the first set 25 - 17.
Second set also to Cole Camp 25-19, thanks to a 5-1 finish to wrap up pool play.
Stats for pool play.
Kills-Dieckman 14, Hesse 13, Allison 11, Goosen 10, Ogle 9
Digs-Ogle 19, Allison 17, Goosen 15, Hesse 14, Pilant 12
Assists-Pilant 35, Ogle 17
Blocks-Dieckman 8
So on to afternoon bracket play where Cole Camp played Sweet Springs. The Bluebirds built a 7-2 lead early, and then put this one away as Marilyn Hesse served a dozen, yes 12 in a row! Pilant and Ogle were setting them up, Goosen and Allison were knocking them down! Cole Camp won 25-6.
Cole Camp trailed by 5 midway in the 2nd set, but several kills by Dieckman help the Bluebirds pull even. By scoring the last seven of the set, Cole Camp won 25-15.
Finally it was Cole Camp vs Lafayette County Higginsville in the Consolation Finals. Both sets very competitive throughout. However the Lady Huskers were able to ease ahead when needed and so Cole Camp came up on the short side of 21-25, 21-25 scores.
Bracket play stats.
Kills-Goosen 15, Allison 10, Dieckman 9, Hesse 9
Digs-Allison 22, Pilant 21, Ogle 17, Harrison 13, Hesse 12, Goosen 9
